The WSET China Bursary Fund opened doors for a group of determined young students at the Shanghai Institute of Tourism (SIT). Through this collaboration, WSET provided fully funded scholarships to 19 students aged 18-20 years. This support offered them not just knowledge and confidence, but a globally recognised foundation for their future careers in the hospitality industry.
Shanghai, one of WSET’s most important global markets and home to a thriving community of students and educators.

The Purpose
The bursary fund was created to support students who had the passion and potential to succeed but lacked the financial means to pursue professional wine and hospitality education. By offering WSET Level 1 and Level 2 Awards in Wines, the initiative aimed to empower these students with globally recognised qualifications, helping them build skills, boost employability, and unlock new career opportunities.
The structured programme delivered by two WSET course providers, Grapea and Stephen Wines included:
- Student selection based on academic performance and financial barriers, ensuring support reached those who needed it most.
- WSET Level 1 Award in Wines - focusing on building foundational knowledge and skills in the world of wine.
- WSET Level 2 Award in Wines - offering deeper insight into wine styles, production, and tasting techniques.
