Join Master of Wine Natasha Hughes for a tasting exploring the iconic yet underrated region of Beaujolais, as she discusses her new book, 'The Wines of Beaujolais'.

Event details

If you think you know Beaujolais, think again! Beaujolais has a reputation as a source of simple, easy-drinking wines for short-term pleasure, but the truth is that the region packs an incredible amount of complexity into a tiny area. As a result, it's the source of a truly diverse range of wines, inflected by variations in both terroir and winemaking – despite the fact that more than 95% of its production is based on one single grape variety.

Natasha Hughes MW, who has recently published a book on the region, will guide you through a selection of wines designed to help you explore Beaujolais in greater depth, and to discover just why it is that this once underrated part of the world has become one of the most exciting wine regions in Europe.

Guests will enjoy some French cheeses from La Fromagerie alongside the wines, and will take home a copy of Natasha’s new book, The Wines of Beaujolais.

About the presenter, Natasha Hughes MW

Natasha Hughes MW

Natasha Hughes MW is a London-based freelance wine writer, educator and consultant. On graduating as a Master of Wine in 2014, she won four out of the seven prizes awarded that year, including the Outstanding Achievement Award for the best overall performance in the Institute’s challenging exams.

Her writing has been published by numerous magazines and websites, and she has contributed to various books, but the recently published The Wines of Beaujolais (Academie du Vin Library) is her first solo effort.

Her interest in the region was sparked more than two decades ago, when she was appointed as the Beaujolais editor for Oz Clarke’s annual almanac, a position she held until the guide ceased publication.

When not writing, Natasha leads tours to wine regions as well as hosting wine events for both consumers and members of the wine trade, and consults for a range of clients. She teaches both tasting and theory to Master of Wine students, and judges at wine competitions around the world, often as a panel chair.
