Join Shane Jones DipWSET to explore the fascinating diversity of one of the oldest wine-producing countries in the world.
Event details
With her 8,000-year history of producing wine continuously, Georgia has rightly earned her crown as 'The Cradle of Wine'. Although production is small today, within a global context there is huge diversity in the styles of wine produced from the pool of indigenous grape varieties. Once standing at more than 500 in number, historical events saw the near extinction of many varieties after favour was given to the more reliable Rkatsileli and Saperavi, the most widely planted varieties today.
Pride and ambition are now buoyant amongst producers in an effort to celebrate the forgotten indigenous gems amongst the lesser-known varieties.
At this tasting, Shane Jones DipWSET will highlight some of these unique varieties helping to shape the new Georgian wine experience whilst exploring the traditional and modern wine making approaches shaping their expression.
